Life Coach Media Billboards

If you travel north or south on I-75 through south Georgia, you are sure to see Jeff Wasserman's new billboards promoting Life Coaching.

The theme is Call, Ask and Listen to Jeff.

Jeff is promoting his internet radio show, Life Coach Radio Show.  The new billboards have caught the attention of several people who are starting to recognize Jeff as the Voice of Life Coaching.

Jeff's other boards all have a message.  This board connects Jeff, Life Coaching and the microphone represent the radio show.  Jeff will help you deal with issues, troubles, problems, challenges and questions.  As the new Merriam Webster Dictionary states, Life Coaches are advisers who helps people make decisions, set and reach goals and deal with problems.

Jeff's newest board, promotes the 2013 Life Coach Tour.  With the news that Merriam Webster Dictionary acknowledges Life Coaches, the 2013 Life Coach Tour should be a huge success.

Life Coach added to the dictionary in 2012

Life Coaching has been around for about 25 years.  More and more I see the word Life Coach used in the media, advertising and in modern day conversations.

An interesting dispute has been taking place for the past 10 years in the Life Coach profession.  Before the ICF, ( international coaching federation) appointed themselves as the "authority" for the coaching profession, Life Coaches helped people make decisions, set and reach goals and handle problems.

For fear of being classified as a therapist without a license, the ICF determined that coaches will not give advice and this will become the distinction between a Life Coach and a therapist.

With the power and funding behind them, the ICF has taken on a monumental task of creating an "authority" over the profession and lay the groundwork for another regulated profession, exactly like the NCTMB did with massage therapy.  First the NCTMB lobby states to enact a strict regulation and state licensing and you guessed it, the NCTMB offers the testing for a fee.

The ICF is now doing the same thing, almost step by step.  I know coaches who have been coaching for years, have large practices and are not "certified" by the ICF, and they do not follow the ICF regulations.

I remember one time when I had my radio program on WGUN 1010 AM here in Atlanta back in 2003 - 2004, I asked a few local coaches to come on my program.  Some said they would not be able to appear on my show, because they are ICF coaches and I "advise" people on the air.

Today Merriam Webster Dictionary announced several new additions to the Collegiate Dictionary and for the first time ever, Life Coach was added.  Here is the definition in the new Merriam Webster Dictionary.

Definition of LIFE COACH

: an advisor who helps people make decisions, set and reach goals, or deal with problems

I am not sure how the ICF will officially react to this definition, but I noticed on line several comments from ICF coaches who find fault with the definition of a Life Coach in the new dictionary.

Until such time as the government recognizes the ICF as the "authority" over the profession, I guess we will have to use the definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary.

Funny thing about the massage therapy profession, in 2007, a new association was formed, the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.  They also issue testing which is used for testing purposes.

Book Expo America

Last week I was in New York and attended BookExpo America. This is the largest book expo of it’s kind. Each year that I attend, it seems like more and more authors are attending these shows. When I speak to groups I am often asked about book publishing, self-publishing and e-books. I always give the same advice, every time I am asked.
Today there are more opportunities than ever to publish your own book. If you have something to say, you should write a book, it is a great learning experience and helps you clarify your ideas and thoughts, just like journaling.
Having said that, writing the book is the easy part. Once you write the book, if you think the large publishing houses will listen, give you the time or day or be interested, your dreaming, unless you are in the news, famous or a politician. If your famous, they will seek you out, otherwise you will need to sell them on the idea.
Marketing your new book, trying to get a publisher to look at your manuscript is the most difficult part. If you are determined or have a unique marketing plan, you will succeed and you will feel a special satisfaction, but it takes a lot of hard work.

New Media Seminar - New York NY

Life Coach Media was pleased to sponsor the Talkers 2012 New Media Seminar in New York on June 7th, 2012. Life Coach Media provided the convention welcome bags, and several gifts for the attendees. At the lunch break, I looked around and all I could see was a sea of blue Life Coach Media tote bags. This event was amazing. I look forward to sponsoring the October West Coast New Media Seminar.

New Media Summit - Jeff Wasserman

On Thursday, June 7th Jeff Wasserman attended the New York Talkers Conference, currently known as the New Media Seminar. As Michael Harrison, founder of Talkers, New Media is now old. When Jeff started in the media business, everything was print, audio and film. Several years ago, the digital age came about. Today, everything is digital and on line. The word Radio is slowly being replaced by Media and Talk Radio is now referred to Talk Broadcasting or Talk Media.

The best part of the Talkers Conferences is the time set aside to meet and greet, to visit with old friends in the business and meet new ones. Talkers is hosting a west coast event in October in Los Angeles and Jeff will be there.

2011 Southern California Regional Talkers Forum

Jeff Wasserman attended the 2011 Talkers Southern California Regional Forum for talk media industry guests.  The event was amazing, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles spoke on the success of Los Angeles in the past few years.  Larry King shared some great stories about his early days in radio and Bill Handle of KFI shared some stories about the future of talk radio.

As expected, the conference was centered around networking and eating, breakfast and lunch was provided by The Original Bagel Company.

Newcomer Andy Dean with Premiere Networks, shared a few remarks and surprised the audience.  Andy was attempting to do comedy and be funny, but his jokes did not go over well with the audience.  Norm Pattiz, founder of Westwood One and now the CEO of Courtside Entertainment spoke about his early years in radio and the success of Westwood One.

A special Thank You to Michael Harrison of Talkers Magazine.  Michael along with his wife, son and staff did a great job putting this event together.  Michael believes local, low cost, regional forums will be the way of the future and I must agree, the day of the 3 day, national conventions are on the way out.

This event cost guests, nothing other than their time. This is sure to be the future of regional conferences.

Life Coach College announces a new Board Certified Program

In 2003, when Life Coach College opened, the only certification available was through the US Life Coach Association.  Life Coach College offered Certified Life Coach, Professional Life Coach and Master Life Coach certifications.

The program was 48 hours of live training along with assignments, reading requirements and labs.  The cost was $4,995.

In 2010, Life Coach College began offering Board Certified Coach certificates.  The program was a huge success.  The board approves coaches based on your ability to help clients without violating coaching ethics.

Marriage - Coaching - Life

On Saturday I spoke with two couples concerning marriage issues.

Both couples have similarities. As you know, I do not disclose personal information on my clients or potential clients, so I will not mention their exact issues, just the dynamics that make up so many marriage disputes.

When two people come together to form a union, marriage, they bring with them expectations. As long as those expectations are respect, love and honesty, there will not be a problem. The problems or issues come in when one or both partners bring with them faulty thought patterns, commonly called baggage.

So one year or twenty years into the marriage, this baggage or thought patterns start to develop into major disputes, soon divorce seems like the only way out.

What can a couple do? Is divorce the only answer?

This was my conversation last night with a couple. Sure you can tell them, preach to them or advise them to be thankful for what they have. I find that easy to say, especially after my wife's accident. Unfortunately that is like printing a warning on the package of cigarettes. It just does not work.

So what is the answer. First, most couples issues boil down to three issues, based on two dynamics. The two dynamics of life are , Fear and Love. Either you Love to do something or you Fear the consequences if you don't do it.

The three dynamics are wanting events your way, the way you feel they should be. The second dynamic is not trying, not experiencing life the way you should. The third dynamic is simply, trying to get others to fill your voids.

As a Life Coach, I see this very quickly in couples. Last night I noticed these dynamics at play in both partners. Ok, so now we know the dynamics at play, now what, what do we do?

There are several methods to help a client. As always you can try mental health therapy. I am not a fan of traditional mental health therapy. You can try Somatic Emotional Release work or Emotional Unwinding. Either method works well. This work, a byproduct of cranial sacral work and MFR, is designed to unleash the unresolved issues that you are holding in your tissues.

I use this work and have found that most clients release the emotional baggage and start to feel better physically. If you would like more information on Life Coaching or Somatic Emotional Release work, please feel free to call my office at 706-864-7000.

Meth = Death

Tonight I took my family to a special meeting held at the local high school by the Lumpkin County Sheriff, Mark McClure. Sheriff McClure is a unique Sheriff in the State of Georgia. He along with all the local judicial system, from Judge Jeff Lowe, the Magistrate Judge, to Superior Court Judge David Barrett, even Chief Judge Hugh Stone were all present.

The forum was designed to speak to the local community, to address drug addiction, especially Meth. This drug is like a cancer, it is taking over rural North Georgia. It is a major problem and there is no simple answer.

The panel consisted of county commission chairman, school superintendent, juvenile judge, superior court judge, drug task force members and John Cagle, the head of the GBI office in Cleveland Georgia.

This forum was very interesting and informative. Although I am disappointed that the system does not try alternative methods of treatment. I know of a local coaching group in Colorado that offers Life Coaching to individuals while in prison.

Afterwards I spoke to Superior Court Judge David Barrett. I asked the judge about treatment programs and therapy available to the prison population. Sad but true, there is little help for prisoners. Maybe I need to start a coaching program for prisoners. It is being offered in other jurisdictions, maybe Lumpkin County is a good place to start in Georgia.

If you know anyone on Meth, as Sheriff McClure said, " you can't stop them, you can't make them want to change," All you can do is show them you care. Offer to help them get help.
